I am an Artist!

New York City school children ages 10 to 14 filled the lobby of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center at the 2007 Art Expo show in NY. They were in attendance to see the portraits they had created as part of the “I am an Artist” program. The program caters to children in the NY city school system that have little or no access to art classes and would otherwise have no chance to embrace the arts at all. The "I am an Artist" campaign was developed in conjunction with the City of New York and the event was sponsored by Fredrix Artist Canvas, which donated the art materials for the project. The colorful self-portraits of 100 students were displayed in the lobby of the Convention Center throughout the show, and the excited bunch gathered for pictures in front of their art-filled wall in the Crystal Palace while program representatives fielded children’s questions about Artexpo and the artists exhibiting. The children were then free to walk the show with their classmates, teachers and family members to meet exhibiting artists and view their works.
